5 Things We Learned at the SEC Softball Tournament

The higher seed is never safe

The championship matchup between the No. 6-seeded LSU Tigers and No. 8-seeded Ole Miss Rebels featured two teams that played on Wednesday. Three of the top four seed in the tournaments lost their first game on Thursday.

Tennessee was a great host.

The hospitality of the staff and volunteers was absolutely incredible. The ballpark was always in great condition and the fans were wonderful. Even though the Vols lost their first game, the fans still showed up throughout the weekend.

The rotating schedule is a good thing.

According to many coaches this week, the rotating schedule is exciting because when you get to the tournament there is a chance of pairing with a team you haven’t seen.

Pitching is queen…

In the SEC and there were a few who stood out. Alexis Osorio set a new SEC Tournament record with 15 strikeouts in a game, Kaitlin Lee went over 20 innings with allowing only one walk and Allie Walljasper dazzled with an incredible changeup.

Scoring is critical.

In the first four games on Wednesday, there were scores of 4-1, 2-1, 7-3 and 6-5. On Thursday we saw a 2-1, 2-0, 2-0 and 6-2. The semis were 4-1 and 6-0. The final ended with a 5-1 score.
