BU Takes Down No. 1 Oklahoma

The Boston University softball team shocked No. 1 and two-time defending national champion Oklahoma, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at New Mexico State’s Troy Cox Classic. Sophomore pitcher Lizzie Annerino earned her first-career win after pitching 4.2 scoreless innings in relief with only four hits allowed to the Sooners. The win marked BU’s first against the nation’s top team and the first against a ranked squad since last year’s 3-1 victory at then-No. 23 Florida Atlantic. BU will wrap up the Troy Cox Classic against host New Mexico State on Sunday.

Michigan’s Freshman Pitcher is One to Watch

The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan softball team earned a pair of shutout wins on its first day of action at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, surging past Notre Dame, 6-0, before edging No. 8-ranked host Florida State, 1-0, in the nightcap on Saturday. The shutouts were the Wolverines’ third and fourth through seven games this season. Michigan pitcher Meghan Beaubien (4-1) was two outs shy of a perfect game against the Seminoles. The freshman retired 19 straight Seminole hitters before allowing a pair of hits in the seventh. Michigan (5-2) will close out the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with two games tomorrow and will face Notre Dame at 10:30 a.m. and Florida State at 1 p.m. at JoAnne Graf Field.

Tigers Sweep Saturday Competition

No. 13 Auburn softball wrapped up day two of the Tiger Invitational with another doubleheader sweep to improve to 11-0 on the season. The 11-0 perfect start is just the third time in program history that Auburn has started a season with 11-straight wins and the first since 2015. The Tigers defeated Maryland 12-1 to open the day and Saint Francis 5-0 in game two on Saturday at Jane B. Moore Field. Tiger pitcher Kaylee Carlson improved to 5-0 on the season after tossing four innings in game one with six strike outs and allowing just one hit and one run. Auburn looks to extend their perfect record in another doubleheader Sunday. The Tigers will face Maryland at 10:30 a.m. CT and Georgia State at 1 p.m. CT.

Florida’s Back-to-Back Shutouts

No. 2 Florida shut out No.16/19 Louisiana in back-to-back games on the road at Lamson Park on Saturday. The two victories move the Gators to 8-0 on the season. Kelly Barnhill and Aleshia Ocasio picked up the victories in the circle. The Gator pitching duo held the Ragin’ Cajuns (6-2) scoreless through two games and limited the potent offense to just six hits. Today was the first time that Louisiana was shut out since a loss to Alabama, Feb. 18, 2017. It’s also been over a decade since the Ragin’ Cajuns have been shut out in back-to-back games. The last time occurred Apr. 6, 2007 against FIU. The series between the Gators and the Ragin’ Cajuns will conclude tomorrow afternoon with the game beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

Aggies Move to 9-0

The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team defeated Iowa, 3-2, and Tulsa, 6-0, Saturday in day two of the Texas A&M Invitational at the Aggie Softball Complex. Against Tulsa, the Aggies took an early lead in the second inning, tallying three runs on three consecutive RBI singles and extended their lead by tacking on three more in the fifth. Lexi Smith earned the win in her first start of her senior campaign after fanning eight and allowing only four hits and in six innings of work.
