STANFORD, Calif. – No. 17/14 Stanford picked up two victories Saturday in the Stanford Nike Invitational behind a highlight pitching performance by Madi Schreyer and consistent timely hitting by Cardinal batters.

Stanford (10-0) opened its day with a 5-0 victory over Bradley (2-7) and finished with a 6-2 decision against Cal Poly (3-6).

Schreyer (7-0) went the distance against Bradley, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings and recording six strikeouts. She allowed 3 hits and two walks.

Bessie Noll and Cassandra Roulund paced the Cardinal offensively, tallying two hits and scoring a run apiece against the Braves.

Stanford did a majority of its offensive damage during a two-out rally in the third inning, posting four runs on four hits. After Kylie Sorenson reached base on a walk followed by a single by Noll, Roulund blasted a two-RBI double into right-center field.

Erin Ashby followed with a double of her own to trade places with Roulund, while Jessica Plaza singled in the next at-bat to bring Ashby home and give Stanford a 5-0 lead.

Cal Poly got two doses of Schreyer, when the freshman pitched the first 4.0 innings of the game, was relieved, then returned in the sixth inning to seal the victory. She finished with two strikeouts in 5.2 shutout innings of work against the Mustangs, allowing three hits and two walks.

Noll got the scoring started for the Cardinal in the bottom of the third with a bases-loaded walk to bring Tylyn Wells home from third. Roulund hit her second double on the day to bring home two runners. A sacrifice fly by Kayla Bonstrom gave the Cardinal an early 4-0 advantage.

Stanford tacked on two additional runs in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by Sorenson that landed just inside the right-field line.

Bonstrom made her second collegiate appearance in the circle in the top of the fifth inning and allowed two runs on three hits in 1.0 inning of work.

Sorenson made brief appearance at pitcher, giving up one hit and allowing a walk. Schreyer reentered the circle in the sixth inning to close the game and secure the win.

Stanford concludes its play in the weekend tournament Sunday at 12:15 against Pacific.
