Arizona State University Softball Announces 2017 Schedule

TEMPE, Ariz. — The @ASU. The 2017 non-conference schedule and the tentative Pac-12 schedule, as announced by first year head coach Trisha Ford, features 16 teams that competed in the postseason last year, including six teams that advanced out of Regional play.

The 2016 campaign features four tournament appearances including the renowned Kajikawa Classic. Since the beginning of ASU Softball in 1966, ASU has hosted the annual tournament. From 1966-1990, it was named the `Sun Devil Invitational’, which found its name changed in 1991 to the Coca-Cola Classic. It remained that until 1999 when the name changed yet again to the `Fiesta Bowl Tournament’.  Six years later in 2005, the name was changed one final time to the `Kajikawa Classic’, after “Mr. Sun Devil” himself, Bill Kajikawa, a legendary coach and founder of Sun Devil Athletics.

The following weekend will feature meetings with four 2016 NCAA qualifiers, beginning with a doubleheader against Texas A&M and Notre Dame on Feb. 24th as part of the Mary Nutter Classic (Feb. 24-26) in Palm Springs, Calif. Following the Friday tilt, ASU will meet Texas on Saturday afternoon, before closing the weekend with a pair of games against St. Johns and WCWS qualifier Michigan.

ASU will then travel to Fullerton, Calif., to take part in the Judi Garman Classic, scheduled to take place March 3-5, where the team will again face the Wolverines before facing three more teams who played in the post season including Fullerton, Baylor, South Carolina and Iowa.

Following the Mary Nutter Classic, the Sun Devils will return to Tempe to begin a four-game home stand that begins with a midweek matchup against Maine on March 8th.

Following the midweek tilt, ASU will host NCAA Regional qualifier Nebraska for a three game series on March 10-12.

ASU’s Pac-12 schedule will begin on the road at 2017 Super Regional participant Washington, March 17-19, before returning home to close out the non-conference schedule with a midweek doubleheader against New Mexico State on March 22.

The Sun Devils will then close the season with seven straight weeks of Pac-12 play featuring home stands against Oregon State (March 25-27), 2016 Super Regional participant Utah (April 21-23), Cal (May 5-7) and WCWS qualifier UCLA (May 11-13).
