BYU Softball Dominates Nebraska 12-1 in First Game 2017 Season

BYU Softball

The BYU Cougars came to play in the 2017 opener. Their bats were alive going 16-27 as a team with 16 hits. The youth of the Nebraska squad showed and senior McKenna Bull looked to be at the top of her game giving up just one hit in five innings. Bull used her rise ball to keep the Cornhuskers on their heels. She posted seven strikeouts over the five innings. The only hit was a solo shot by  Austen Urness.

At the plate for BYU Libby Suggs started where she left off last season going 2-4 with a home run and five RBI. Freshman Rylee Jensen got her college career off to an impressive start batting lead-off and going 4-4 with a double and three runs.

Overall BYU looked like the more prepared team and their experience showed. Nebraska has talent, but like with any young team, they will need to find their way. The Cougars looked strong up and down the line-up and we already know they have solid pitching.

Later today BYU will face the defending national champions when the face Oklahoma. That will be a great test to see where they may fit into the bigger picture this season. Based on what they just did, that could turn out to be a real fun game to watch. The will face off at 4:00 pm CST and it can be followed here.
