FPN 2017 NCAA DI Softball Freshmen of the Year: Lindaman and Balint

Fastpitch News has announced their Freshmen of the year for the 2017 season.

Minnesota’s Kendyl Lindaman can add one more accolade to her historic 2017 year. She has been named Fastpitch News’ Freshman of the Year.

Lindaman broke five Gopher single-season records this season and was named both the Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Year.

The eight-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week honoree led the Big Ten in batting average (.426), slugging percentage (.899), home runs (20), RBI (tied-76), walks (63) and on-base percentage (.598).

The numbers for homers, slugging, RBI, walks and on-base percentage were all Minnesota records. Her on-base percentage was third-best in the NCAA, RBI was tied for third, slugging was fourth and home runs was seventh.

Oregon’s Maggie Balint,  a strong freshman campaign in the circle for the Ducks.

The West Grove, Pa. native ended with a 21-3 overall record with 152 strikeouts to just 37 walks and posted three saves. She twice won Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors. she posted a low 1.22 ERA over 126 innings pitched.

The future is bright for both these rising stars.
