LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Ashley Holmes was named the Big West Field Player of the Week after an outstanding week at the Easton Desert Classic. Holmes hit a trio of home runs and drove in 11 RBI in five games in Las Vegas.

Holmes, who is leading the Big West in most offensive categories, hit .500 on the weekend (8-for-16) while leading Long Beach State to a 3-2 record. The Whittier, Calif. native, has now opened the year with a nine-game hitting streak, reaching safely in each game the junior has played this season.

Holmes leads the Big West in batting average, slugging and on-base percentage, with a slash line of .500/1.074/.567 on the season. Her five home runs are also best in the conference, as are her 14 RBI on the year.

With the award, Holmes earns the honor for the first time in her career, and becomes the first 49er named Big West Player of the Week since Shayna Kimbrough on April 29 of last year.
