POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Softball team swept Blue Mountain Community College in a doubleheader played at Miller Ranch Stadium Saturday. The Bengals defeated BMCC 13-0 and 11-0.

Three pitchers combined for the two shutouts. Bailey Foster gave up just one hit in three innings for Idaho State, Jessica Tolmie gaveup just two hits in three innings and Haley Douglas tallied four strikeouts in four innings.

The offense also played very well. The Bengals had 27 hits and scored 24 runs in the two games including five home runs.

Senior outfielder Katee Wiley went 4-5 with 6 RBIs and was walked once. Veterans Vicky Galasso, Hailey Breakwell, and Terah Blackwell all hit home runs.

Freshmen Dara Kolar and Jennie Murillo also hit home runs. Murillo’s was a grand slam over the left field wall.

“The offensive production Saturday was impressive,” Head coach Julie Wright said. “It was great to see both Murillo and Kolar getting their first home runs at Miller Ranch. On top of that I was also happy with the pitching; Foster, Douglas, and Tolmie all pitched very well.”

The defense also did their job to protect the shutouts. Wright was impressed with what her team did.

“I was pleased with the defense, especially the play of Micheala Taylor at second base,” Wright said. “We expect big things out of her this season and she showed that she is ready to continue her improvement to be a better player.”

The fall season has much more to with working on fundamentals and helping young players prepare for the speed of the college game. Wright believes her team has the right attitude about making improvements and it is showing on the field.

“My favorite part of the day was watching so many of the players transfer what they have been working on in practice to the game,” Wright said. “The Fall season is about getting better every day. A win is a great byproduct but the improvement from day-to-day, practice-to-practice is the best thing to see. It was a great day.”

Idaho State finishes the fall season Friday with a doubleheader against the College of Southern Idaho. The action starts at 3 p.m. at Miller Ranch Stadium.
