Washington out lasts Tigers to win game 1

Final Stats

COLUMBIA, Mo. – With outstanding pitching from juniors Kaitlin Inglesby and Bryana Walker the No. 11 Huskies took game one of Super Regionals at No. 6 Missouri on Thursday night live on ESPN, 2-1.

With the win, the Huskies will need one win on Friday to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2010. Game two is Friday at 3 p.m. PT live on ESPNU. Game three (if necessary) will be live on ESPN at approximately 5 p.m. PT.

Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) started the game in what became a pitchers dual with Missouri ace Chelsea Thomas. Inglesby allowed just one run on four hits in 6.0 innings. Thomas took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in the complete game.

Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) pitched the final 2.0 innings to earn her 18th win of the year. She entered in the seventh after Inglesby reached base for the second time in the game with a walk and pinch runner Dani Braun (Chehalis, Wash.) entered to score the tying run. Braun scored in the seventh on an infield single by Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.).

Missouri got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth. Leadoff hitter Emily Crane became the first Tiger on base since the second inning and scored on a single to the left side of the infield with two outs.

Washington took the lead for good in the top of the eighth as junior Kelli Suguro (Kent, Wash.) singled and reached second on an error. The first pitch to the next batter, Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.), was drilled to center as Suguro scored.

Suguro made an outstanding play at second base defensively in the bottom of the second inning. Her play made No. 6 on the Sportscenter Top 10 Plays of the Night. (Video hopefully to come soon).
