Katie Richardson Promoted at Arizona State

Arizona State’s Head Coach Trisha Ford announced on Monday that she has elevated former Minnesota Gopher All-American Katie Richardson to full-time assistant coach.

Richardson was a Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2017 with the Sun Devils after spending the 2016 off-season months as a graduate assistant coach at  Minnesota where Richardson played from 2012-2015. Richardson was a two-time All-American at Minnesota went on to play in the National Pro-Fast Pitch League getting drafted 5th overall in the 1st round of the NPF Draft by the Dallas Charge in 2015.

Richardson will have the responsibilities as the infield and hitting coach which she also had in 2017 as a volunteer coach. Richardson is a native of Phoenix, Arizona and was part of Sun Devils 31-22 record reaching the NCAA Tournament playing in the Oxford Regional where they went 1-2  winning the opening game of the regional against North Carolina then losing to Ole Miss in the winner bracket game and season coming to an end losing to the Tar Heels in the elimination game.

Richardson takes over for Roman Foore who recently took over as Head Coach of the now Texas Charge back on Sunday, July 2nd replacing Crystl Bustos. Foore had been an assistant with Charge during the season and was with the Chicago Bandits last summer when he was hired by the Sun Devils.

Ford who finished her first season as Head Coach of the Sun Devils after coming over from Fresno State is currently serving as an assistant coach for the United States Junior Softball team this summer which played recently at the World Cup in Oklahoma City and will participate at the upcoming Junior World Championships held in Clearwater from July 24-30. Ford is working with Oregon State’s Laura Berg is serving as the Head Coach for the Junior team as well as two-time Olympian Natasha Watley who is an assistant on the staff.
