LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball program has added a pair of rising sophomore transfers in Jenna Kreamer and Lexie Elkins for the 2014 season, as announced by head coach Michael Lotief on Friday.

Both are eligible to begin competing for the Cajuns in the upcoming season, with three years of eligibility.

“We’ve had a lot of success with transfers in the past,” Lotief said.  “Vanessa Soto, Matte Haack, Brooke Brodhead, Krystal Lewallen to name a few.  Our preference is to build from within, but with so much turn-over the past two years, these kids can come in and use their past experiences to help us get better.”

Kreamer, a utility player, is a native of Shreveport, La, and spent her freshman year at Washington.  She played in in 13 games and getting one hit in the regular season with a team that advanced to the Women’s College World Series.  She was a four-time all-state selection at Evangel Christian Academy, winning the state tournament in her freshman, sophomore and junior years.

“It’s a homecoming for [Kreamer],” Lotief said.  “Getting her back home where she’s had so much success and has her support nearby will be a good thing for her mindset and development.    She has WCWS experience and understands the process a lot like [Haack] did.  She can have that with us.”

Elkins is a catcher from Victoria, Texas, and spent her freshman season at Texas Tech.  She played in 47 games, starting 42, batting .282 with 18 runs scored and 21 RBI.  She threw out a team-high five potential base stealers, and allowed just two passed balls all season.

“[Elkins] graduated high school a semester early and basically jumped right into college softball as a high school senior, last year,” Lotief said.  “She had no fall development time and to me , that showed incredible maturity, toughness and confidence.  Although she is still young, she has extensive game experience and will only get better, stronger and more confident.

The Cajuns went 47-15 in 2013 advancing to the NCAA Ann Arbor Super Regional, reaching the Super Regionals for the second straight year.  They swept the field at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and did not allow a run in all 21 innings.

Louisiana returns all-Sun Belt pitcher Jordan Wallace (32-9) and three-year starter, senior Natalie Fernandez in 2014.

Louisiana has six home games on the 2013 fall schedule, starting on September 29 against the USSSA Pride of the National Professional Fastpitch league at 3:00 p.m.  You can purchase a premium package for that game by contacting Lana Bowers in the softball office at (337) 262-2283.  The premium package includes five tickets, parking pass, and access to all players after the game for just $100.
