Sammy Marshall

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team and head coach Erin Kinberger announce the addition of Sammy Marshall to the coaching staff as an assistant coach on Thursday, Sept. 8.

“We are beyond excited to have Sammy join our staff and family,”said Kinberger. “Her resume and accomplishments speak for themselves, but her attention to detail, game knowledge, and winning mentality will be a great addition to our program and staff. I’m looking forward to being a part of her journey into coaching. My staff and I feel we’ve hit a ‘grand slam’ having her in Green and Gold.”

Marshall joins the Lions from the National Pro Fastpitch, Chicago Bandits, located in Rosemont, Ill., where she has been a member of the team for two seasons (2015 and 2016).

While on the roster for the Bandits’ back-to-back championship runs, Marshall owns a career batting average of .258 after going 33-for-122 this past season. Marshall has scored 32 career runs in two seasons and has swiped 21 total bags. She has recorded three doubles and two triples with eight RBI in the league.

During her four-year career at Western Illinois (WIU), Marshall was a four-time First Team All-Summit League selection, a two-time Summit League Player of the Year (2013 and 2014), a three-time Academic All-Summit League selection while being named to the Academic Honor Roll all four years.

As the shortstop for the Leathernecks, Marshall set the record for career stolen bases (134) and runs scored (168), on her way to setting WIU and the Summit League’s individual career batting average record (.456). After being drafted 18th overall by the Chicago Bandits on April 18, 2015, Marshall was just the third WIU softball player to ever be drafted to play professionally.

The Naperville, Ill. Native, is a 2015 graduate of Western Illinois with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science, with a minor in nutrition.
