Seminole Softball Fall Schedule Announced

Reigning NCAA Super Regional participants play a 10-game slate which features match-ups at Georgia and USF

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State softball team prepares for its 2014 season with a 10-game schedule of fall ball, including seven that are played at JoAnne Graf Field.

“As a coaching staff we really enjoy fall ball for a variety of reasons,” 2013 ACC Coach of the Year Lonni Alameda said. “We’re always happy to see our returnees and how much more they can progress, and it’s a chance to get some good looks at our incoming talent that we have. Being able to put our team in game situations is always important as we prepare for the regular season and postseason in the springtime.”

The reigning NCAA Super Regional participants who are coming off a 44-19 season begin their offseason competition on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Seminoles will first face off in an intrasquad scrimmage at 10 a.m. in Tallahassee before facing Chipola Junior College in a matchup at noon.

Florida State returns home for another team scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. The game is followed by another noon matchup, this time against Northwest Florida State.

Early in the fall season the Seminoles will take their first road trip to Athens, Ga. on the University of Georgia campus. Florida State starts with Georgia State on Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. Both teams competed during the actual playing season in the 2011 Athens Regional where Florida State won an elimination game by a 6-1 score.

The Seminoles finish their trip to Athens by facing Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 5 at noon, then on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon as well.

The second and final road trip of the fall is at USF on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon in Tampa, Fla.

The final weekend of fall ball takes place on Nov. 8-9 at JoAnne Graf Field. The Seminoles face Pensacola Junior College on Friday at 5 p.m., then hold their third and final team scrimmage on Saturday at 10 a.m. The fall season wraps up with a noon game against Wallace Junior College on Nov. 9 following the scrimmage.

All dates and times for the fall schedule are subject to change.

Florida State is looking to build off its most successful campaign since the 2006 season. The Seminoles’ entire infield is expected to return as well as most of the team’s power source at the plate that helped the 2013 squad hit a school-record 60 home runs.
