Six GW Softball Players Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Six members of the George Washington softball team were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as All-America Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced on Monday.

In addition, the Colonials as a team boasted a 3.29 cumulative grade-point average to earn NFCA All-Academic Team accolades.

The All-America Scholar-Athlete award recognizes any player who achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.

Seniors Alexandra Del Prete (3.52) and Courtney Martin (3.63), sophomore Carlee Gray (3.84), 2013 graduates Kristi Saporito (3.96) and Amanda Zakeri (3.89) and former student-athlete Chelsea Lenhart (3.75) were all honored by the NFCA as All-America Scholar-Athletes.

Moreover, GW was one of 100 NCAA Division I institutions and one of six Atlantic 10 programs to boast a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to earn the team recognition.

The Colonials enjoyed their first-ever winning season in 2013, reaching the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second year in a row and producing a school-record 27 victories.
