Pro Life: Goodbye June, Hello July

The Pro Life Sara Moulton

Happy fourth of July everyone!

I thought I would begin by giving a quick summary of what your Chicago Bandits have been up to the past few weeks. We just wrapped up a stretch of away games and the locations included Houston TX, San Antonio TX, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Texas was as hot and humid as expected but it was awesome to get to finally see and play on the new Scrap Yard field. We took on the Dallas Charge at a D2 college in San Antonio, and it was exciting for me to drive through and be able see more of Texas, a state I had never been to until last summer. We concluded our week and a half of away games in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Alumni Field where the B1G Wolverines play. I hadn’t stepped onto Alumni Field since my 2014 senior season with the Minnesota Gophers. It felt great to be back pitching in B1G country and on a field I was once familiar with. It brought back many memories of my college days and I was excited I got a chance to make some new memories there as a Pro. On our last day in Ann Arbor we went on a tour of Michigan’s Football Stadium “The Big House”. It was awesome to see it in person, to learn about the history, and it was much bigger than it looks on TV!

We went 1-6 on our most recent road trip and we can’t wait to bounce back during our 9 game home stretch coming up this week. You know what? That’s the beauty about the sport of softball. You can have a bad day, and you get to wake up the next morning and play again. I can speak for our whole team when I say we are hungry and ready to fight for some home game wins this week. It’s time to put June behind us and make advances and victories in July.

We are lucky enough to have the fourth of July off for the third summer in a row. We will be spending it as a team, having a BBQ where everyone brings a dish to share. This year I will be making my mom’s Patriotic Fruit Pizza. We’ll wrap up the night watching fireworks somewhere in the city. The best location in Chicago to watch fireworks, in my opinion, is at Navy Pier. We resume play on July 5th at home with a two game series against the USSSA Pride, followed by three more home games against the Pennsylvania Rebellion. GO BANDITS!
