Hailey Peloquin Earns JO Player of the Week honors

OKLAHOMA CITY — Hailey Peloquin’s (Woonsocket, R.I.) dominance on the mound this past week has landed her the Week 2 ASA/USA Junior Olympic (JO) Player of the Week honors, presented by Worth Fastpitch and www.FloSoftball.com. Announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball, Peloquin pitched 22 innings for the RI Thunder Gold, piling up four wins in as many appearances while racking up 45 strikeouts at the Think Pink Tournament this past weekend in Tewksbury, Ma.

“Hailey has matured a lot as a player, which it has been a pleasure to see,” said RI Thunder Gold’s head coach and Peloquin’s father, Brian Peloquin. “From a father standpoint, I have been able to see improvement from being able to work indoors and practice as much as possible. Hailey has hopes of earning a college scholarship.”

Along with her pitching, Peloquin was also a standout at the plate. With a batting average of .680 in 25 at bats, she brought home five RBI on 12 hits. Peloquin also showed off her base running abilities this past weekend, scoring 14 times.

Established to recognize JO players 18 years or younger for outstanding play in an ASA/USA sanctioned event, the ASA/USA Softball JO Player of the Week honors 10 athletes, male or female, from May 27 – August 4 following the conclusion of the ASA/USA JO National Championships. In order to be eligible for the award, athletes must be registered with their local ASA/USA association and must participate in ASA/USA Softball sanctioned events or tournaments during the week nominated. Honorable Mentions:

Madisyn Davis (Orange Park, Fla.) – Davis threw 49 innings over the weekend and went 5-1 with a total of 37 strikeouts. With the efforts of her pitching, the opponents’ batting a .201 average, it was very seldom for them to get barrel on the ball.

Riley Kane (Prospect, Conn.) – Kane led her team, Valley Fusion, offensively with a .714 batting average including a single, two triples, along with two homeruns. Scoring 10 times, she had four RBI’s, six stolen bases and three walks. Kane had three appearances on the mound, being the winning pitcher accounted for in each game. Pitching a perfect game in the semifinals, she struck out all nine batters she faced in the three inning mercy rule. Kane is 16-1, with two relief appearances for the season and was the winning pitcher in every semifinal and championship game.

Annalisa McKinney (Pasco, Wash.) – As a utility player for Tri-City Fuzion, McKinney’s defense was stellar at both first and third base while participating in the Tormaschy Memorial tournament in Selah, Wash. this past weekend. McKinney helped lead her team to win the 14-Under Championship by moving runners into scoring position as well as herself. In a total of ten at bats, she batted .900 with six RBI’s.
