USA-Brazil Box Score | Pan American Games Qualifier Schedule
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico —Lauren Gibson, Raven Chavanne and the USA Softball Women’s National team lineup continued to thrive offensively on Sunday with an 11-0, five-inning victory over Brazil in the Pan American Games Qualifier.
The Americans, who will continue round-robin play against Cuba on Monday at 9 a.m. ET, poured on six runs in the first inning and never looked back. The team scored three more in the fourth and two more in the fifth to win by run rule.
Gibson was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Chavanne was 1-for-3 with one run and three big defensive assists at the hot corner. Taylor Hoagland and Valerie Arioto each homered in the win.
Jessica Moore earned the victory after tossing five shutout innings with just three hits and one walk issued.
Brazil’s Nilze Higa took the loss after allowing six unearned runs in two frames. Raquelli Bianco gave up three earned runs in two relief innings. Camila Silva gave up two runs in the fifth.
In the first inning, Michelle Moultrie reached on an error at first and Chavanne followed with a single to give Gibson two on with no outs. Gibson delivered with an RBI single to give the U.S. the 1-0 lead and put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Nicole Hudson hit an RBI single to plat Chavanne. The next three batters drove in four more to push Team USA’s lead to 6-0.
Gibson knocked a one-out single in the top of the fourth and later scored on an RBI double by Lauren Chamberlain. Arioto blasted a two-run homer to give the U.S. a 9-0 advantage.
In the fifth, Destinee Martinez left off the inning with a walk and Hoagland belted a two-run homer to make the Americans’ lead 11-0.
