SURREY, Canada — Raven Chavanne sparked a fourth-inning rally and Lauren Gibson had an RBI double to help Team USA to a 4-1 win over the California A’s on Tuesday in the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship.

After falling behind, 1-0, in the first inning, Team USA used a three-run surge in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. The Red, White and Blue added one more run in the fifth.

Gibson went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. The double marked her fifth consecutive game with a hit for Team USA this summer. She is the only Team USA player with a hit in each game she has had a plate appearance in this summer.

Cheridan Hawkins started the game for Team USA and earned the win after striking out nine and allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks over 4.2 frames. Valerie Arioto tossed 1.1 scoreless relief frames to earn the save. Sara Nevins threw a scoreless seventh inning.

Paige Parker started for the California A’s and took the loss after throwing four innings and allowing three earned runs. Sara Driesenga threw two relief innings with one earned run allowed.

California jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Lyndsay Doyle hit a solo home run off Hawkins.

Chavanne sparked Team USA’s rally in the bottom of the fourth, swinging at the first pitch she saw from Parker and connecting for a single. Four batters later, Amber Freeman hit a two-out, two-RBI double to score Chavanne and Arioto and give the Stars and Stripes the lead. Two batters later, Taylor Thorn knocked an RBI double to score Freeman.

Gibson extended Team USA’s lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth with one out. She connected on a full-count pitch from Driesenga for an RBI double that brought home Michelle Moultrie from third base.

Team USA gets a World Cup title-game rematch on Wednesday at midnight ET when it takes on Japan.
