Tennessee Softball: Gibson Leads USA To 4-0 Win Over Australia

OKLAHOMA CITY –– With two RBIs, one run and a stolen base, Tennessee’s Lauren Gibson was the hero once again for Team USA, leading the Red, White and Blue to a 4-0 win over Australia on Friday in the General Tire World Cup of Softball VIII at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the third, Gibson connected for a two-RBI single to left field that plated Kourtney Salvarola and Michelle Moultrie and gave the Stars and Stripes a 2-0 lead. Gibson stole second base two batters later and scored Team USA’s third run on Valerie Arioto’s RBI double.

Gibson also had three defensive assists, snagging hard-hit balls to the right side for the first out of the second and the first out of the fourth.

In the top of the sixth, Gibson came up with a great defensive play, fielding the short hop to the right side for the second out of the inning.

Team USA will next face Japan on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.
