Texas Charge Take Game from Scrap Yard Dawgs

ERIE, CO(June 27, 2017) — Following some time off to practice with the USA Women’s National Team, Ally Carda was victorious Tuesday night in her return to the pitching circle for the Texas Charge.

Carda tossed six strong innings and struck out eight to help the Charge defeat the Houston Scrap Yard Dawgs 5-4 in the opener of a two-game series played in Colorado.

Carda exited in the sixth with Texas (9-8) holding a 5-1 edge. Florida alum Delanie Gourley made her first professional appearance in the seventh and managed to seal the deal despite giving up three runs on three hits.

Gourley struck out Houston’s Brianna Cherry to end the game.

The Charge’s offense struck early against Scrap Yard Dawgs starter Morgan Melloh. Lauren Haeger belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and Bailey Landry upped the ante by launching a three-run bomb in the next frame.

Haeger finished 2 for 3 on the night, raising her season average to .313.
