5 Things You May Have Missed in College Softball Saturday

The DI College softball teams are well into conference play all across the country. Below are five things that stood out to us at FPN, that you may have missed from Saturday play.

Florida State Wins ACC Regular Season Championship

For the sixth consecutive season and the 16th time in program history, the Seminoles have won the ACC regular season championship as No. 6 Florida State (41-9, 18-2 ACC) defeated Notre Dame (30-20, 12-10 ACC) by a score of 11-2 in six innings on Saturday afternoon. The Seminole offense came from all over the lineup on Saturday as nine different players recorded a hit, eight different Noles scored a run and seven separate players drove in an RBI. Meghan King (15-6) earned the win in the circle for the Noles after tossing 4.0 innings, giving up one hit, and struck out four. Florida State and Notre Dame will conclude the series on Sunday, April 29 with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

LSU Shuts Out Florida

The 13th-ranked LSU softball team shut out No. 5 Florida, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium to even up the series 1-1. The Tigers improve to 37-12 overall and 10-9 in the SEC. The Gators are now 43-8 on the year and 16-4 in the league. In the fifth inning, Michaela Schlattman got the Tigers on the board with a two-run shot over the center field wall. The Tigers put up their third run in the seventh off another Schlattman hit, a single to left center. Maribeth Gorsuch was stellar in the circle, keeping Florida off balance for most of the game. She did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and allowed just three for the game. The rubber match will take place on Sunday with the first pitch slated for 11 a.m. CT.

Aggies Win Series Against Auburn

The No. 14 Texas A&M softball team defeated No. 9 Auburn, 1-0, in a pitcher’s duel Saturday afternoon at Davis Diamond. Samantha Show tossed the first seven-inning complete game of her career, allowing just two baserunners on a hit and a walk. The East Bernard, Texas, native retired the last 12 batters she faced. With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, Texas A&M’s Kristen Cuyos stepped up to the plate with two-outs and produced a walk-off single up the middle, allowing Kylie George to touch home to clinch the series. The Aggies outhit the Tigers, 5-1 on the day. The series finale will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Ducks Clinch Series Over Huskies

The No. 2 ranked Ducks defeated No. 3 Washington, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium, behind a two-run homer in the fourth inning off the bat of Lauren Lindvall. The Ducks (40-7, 14-3 Pac-12) are now just a half game back of UCLA (15-3 Pac-12) in the conference standings. Oregon took 2-of-3 games from the Bruins earlier this season. On the mound, Miranda Elish (17-1) allowed two runs – both in the first inning – on seven total hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. The sophomore now has a 1.05 ERA on the season. After winning the series opener on Friday, 7-2 in nine innings, the Ducks have clinched the series and the final game of the series will take place on Saturday at 1 PM on ESPN2.

Georgia Walks Off to Claim Series at Alabama

Two go-ahead runs in the seventh inning lifted the No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs softball team to a 4-3 win over No. 17 Alabama Saturday evening in front of a capacity crowd at Jack Turner Stadium. Georgia outhit Alabama 7-5. Seniors Cortni Emanuel and Kendall Burton each had two-hit games for the Bulldogs. The win marked the fifth game Georgia has come back to win after trailing after six innings this season. With the series-clinching victory, Georgia remains the only team in the Southeastern Conference to win all seven league series. This also marked the first series win against the Tide since 2005. The series finale will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.
