2018 Seeding

  • No. 1 Florida State
  • No. 2 Pittsburgh
  • No. 3 North Carolina
  • No. 4 Boston College
  • No. 5 Notre Dame
  • No. 6 Georgia Tech
  • No. 7 Duke
  • No. 8 Louisville
  • No. 9 Syracuse
  • No. 10 Virginia Tech

The Seminoles are the heavy favorites as they continue to dominate ACC play winning the regular season championship once again. The Noles will look to win the ACC Tournament for a shot at a top-eight seed in the NCAA tournament.

NCAA Tournament outlook:  Florida State is the only lock to be in the NCAA Tournament.

Bubble Teams:  Notre Dame, Boston College, Louisville, Pittsburgh

The ACC has been up and down this season with no clear team standing out behind Florida State.

Pittsburgh (48 RPI): Won the coastal division and enters as the second seed. The issue is they only have three top 50 wins. One over Florida State and two over Louisville. To get a bid, they will need to make it to the championship game probably.

Notre Dame (43 RPI):  The Irish have the best resume of the bubble teams with seven wins against top 50 teams. That includes wins against Minnesota, Michigan, Florida State and a sweep over Louisville. But the Irish are 4-8 in their last 12 games and come into ACC Tournament as the five seed and will open against Boston College.

Boston College (53 RPI): The Eagles are the five seed and will play Notre Dame in a must-win for the Eagles. Boston College did take two-of-three from Notre Dame in the regular season and had wins against Florida State, and Ole Miss.

Louisville (44 RPI): The Cardinals are the eight seed and open with Syracuse. If they win against the Orange, they will face top-seeded Florida State. If Louisville gets knocked out early, it will mean the end of the season for Cardinals.

Darkhorse: North Carolina

The Tar Heels come in seeded third and have a favorable draw. They also may have one of the best pitchers in the conference that does not pitch at FSU. That would be Brittnany Pickett who helped lead the Heels to the ACC Tournament Final last year and the NCAA Regional final at Ole Miss. Do not be surprised if Pickett does it again this year and leads North Carolina to the ACC Final.

Projection: Florida State wins the ACC Tournament over North Carolina and the ACC ends up being a two-bid league with Notre Dame joining the Noles in the NCAA field of 64.
