Atlantic 10 Softball Players Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s Alysha Isaacson and Fordham’s Elise Fortier have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Co-Players of the Week for games played Mar. 31 – April 6.  Caroline Raymond of Massachusetts and Sam Bedore of Rhode Island were named Co-Pitchers of the Week while George Washington’s Jillian Galich and Massachusetts’ Tara Klee were also honored as the Co-Rookies of the Week.

Isaacson, a senior from Chula Vista, Calif., earned her second consecutive A-10 weekly honor after batting 12-for-21 (.571) this past week with two home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored to lead the Flyers. Issacson recorded five multi-hit games for the week along with totaling six extra base hits. For the week, she posted an on-base percentage of .609 and a slugging percentage of 1.048.

Fortier, a senior from Coventry, R.I., batted six-for-10 (.600) for the week with home run and six RBI as the Rams went 2-1 last week. Against conference foe George Mason on Saturday, Fortier went two-for-three with an RBI and a sac fly in game one following with a four-for-four performance in game two in which she tied a career-high with five RBI and finished just a triple short of the cycle.

Raymond, a redshirt junior from Downingtown, Pa., went 2-0 last week with a pair of complete game victories and an ERA of 2.50 to lead the Minutewomen. She struck out five batters while allowing just four hits in a 3-1 victory over Yale on Wednesday, before coming back to hold the league’s top offense to just four runs on eight hits in a 9-4 victory over Dayton.

Bedore, a senior from Bangor, Maine, was 1-0 with an ERA of 0.60 and a save as the Rams went 2-1 on the week including a sweep of Saint Joseph’s. Bedore tossed 11.2 innings allowing only three runs, one of which was earned, on eight base hits while striking out nine. Bedore is the first pitcher of the week award winner for Rhode Island since 2003 (Jenna Thurston).

Galich batted a team-best .583 (7-for-12) with four doubles and nine RBI to lead George Washington to a 3-1 week. The Tinley Park, Ill., native recorded a base hit and an RBI in every game highlighted by a three-for-three and four RBI performance in the Colonials’ 16-14 victory over Cornell.

Klee went 2-0 on the week with an ERA of 1.75 while holding opponents to a .225 average. The freshman from Hamburg, Pa., allowed only one run on four hits over five innings against Yale on Wednesday and picked up a complete game 5-2 victory over Dayton on Saturday.
