NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle’s Alicia Aughton has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for games played April 14–20.  Massachusetts’ Jena Cozza was also honored as the Rookie of the Week.

Aughton, a junior from Moon Township, Pa., was outstanding from both the pitching circle and the batter’s box this past week as the Explorers posted a record of 3-1 against Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Aughton was 5-for-9 at the plate (.555) with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored. She also posted a record of 3-0, allowing only one earned run on nine hits over 19.0 innings pitched. In Thursday’s game against Massachusetts, she tossed a complete game shutout in which she allowed only two base hits before hitting a walk-off three run home run to lead La Salle over the Minutewomen. In a doubleheader against Rhode Island on Saturday, Aughton went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored along with earning a complete game victory in game one in which she allowed only one earned run on five hits. In game two, she tossed five scoreless innings in relief and earned her third win of the week.

Cozza, a freshman from Wantagh, N.Y., earned her second consecutive A-10 weekly honor after batting .600 (9-for-15) for the week with a home run, six RBI and three runs scored. Against La Salle on Friday, Cozza went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. She followed that performance with two additional multi-hit games against Fordham in which she was 5-for-8 (.625) with a home run and three RBI.
