Big East Softball Players Of The Week

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Jackie Reed, St. John’s, Sr., INF
Reed batted a league-high .579 last week with a BIG EAST-best six runs batted in and a .947 slugging percentage. Reed totaled three extra base hits including a pair of home runs. She was walked five times and did not strike out despite 19 at bats. On defense, she tallied 46 putouts and six assists in six error-free games, all against conference foes. For the season, Reed’s .402 batting average lists second in the BIG EAST and 14 fielding double plays ranks first.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Becca Changstrom, Creighton, Sr., P
Changstrom went 2-1 in three appearances last week, with her lone setback coming at Nebraska, which entered the week ranked seventh in the NCAA RPI. Changstrom’s 0.90 earned run average last week led all conference pitchers, while her 32 strikeouts (including 26 against BIG EAST batters) ranked second. The senior struck out six nationally ranked Cornhuskers before racking up back-to-back double-digit strikeouts against Villanova in a pair of shutout performances. In 23.1 innings pitched, Changstrom did not allow an extra base hit. For the season, her 1.60 ERA is tops among all BIG EAST hurlers.

Weekly Honor Roll
Kristin Gutierrez, Butler, So., P
Gutierrez led the BIG EAST with a 4-0 record last week, striking out 26 and boasting a 1.75 earned run average in 28.0 innings pitched and four appearances.

Francesca Carrullo, St. John’s, Jr., P

Carrullo went 1-0 in 10.0 innings pitched over four appearances, all against BIG EAST foes. She totaled three strikeouts with a 1.40 ERA.

Mary Connolly, DePaul, Jr., P/1B
Connolly batted .538 in a 4-0 week for the Blue Demons with three RBI, including the game-winning sacrifice fly against Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon.

Krista Hakola, Butler, Sr., INF
Hakola batted .444 in a 4-2 week for the Bulldogs. She tallied a league-best five doubles and added three RBI in 18 at bats.

Kirsten Verdun, DePaul, Sr., P
Verdun went 3-0, including a win against No. 23/25 Notre Dame and a no-hitter against Seton Hall on Saturday. She led the league in hits allowed (12) and showed a 1.75 ERA with 22 strike outs in 20.0 IP.
