C-USA Softball Players Of The Week

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina junior right-hander Sarah Christian has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after earning a pair of one-hit victories, including a five-inning complete-game shutout, to lead the Pirates to a three-game sweep of Southern Miss. Marshall senior Savanah Webster has been tabbed the C-USA Player of the Week after helping the Herd to a 5-0 record, hitting .474 and leading the team in hits (9), doubles (2), home runs (2), total bases (17) and slugging percentage (.895), and tying for the most runs (5).

Pitcher of the Week – Sarah Christian, East Carolina, Jr., Greenville, N.C.

Christian earned a pair of one-hit victories, including a five-inning complete-game shutout, to lead East Carolina to a three-game sweep of Southern Miss. The junior allowed just two hits and two walks in the two outings while striking out 10 and posting a 0.70 ERA to improve to 14-5 on the season. In Sunday’s series finale, her second start of the weekend, Christian was perfect through 3.2 innings before surrendering the Golden Eagles’ lone hit of the game, breaking up a streak of 24 consecutive outs recorded by ECU pitching going back to the final 13 outs of Saturday’s doubleheader. Southern Miss combined to hit .061 as a team over the course of the weekend with Christian in the circle. This is Christian’s second Pitcher of the Week award of the season (March 10) and of her career.

Player of the Week – Savanah Webster, Marshall, Sr., UTL, Las Vegas

Webster hit .474 in Marshall’s five-win week. Over the weekend, Webster’s offensive game was crucial in the Herd’s first three-game conference sweep of Middle Tennessee. At the Blue Raiders Softball Field, the senior was 8-of-12 totaling her weekend average to .667 and her slugging percentage to 1.333. She connected for two doubles and two home runs, while recording 16 total bases – double the team’s next best (8). Overall for the week, Webster led the team in hits (9), doubles (2), home runs (2), total bases (17) and slugging percentage (.895), and tied for the most runs (5). This is Webster’s first Player of the Week award of her career.
