Campbell defeats Elon 9-2 in mid-week matchup

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Katie Baker struck out nine and Milly Martinet belted a three-run home run to lead Campbell to a 9-2 victory over Elon, Wednesday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Katie Baker pitched seven innings scattering two hits, allowing two runs (one earned), while striking out nine. The win improves her record to 2-1 and CU’s record to 5-4.

Chelsea White took the loss for the Phoenix, throwing 1/3 of an inning allowing three runs (three earned) on three hits. The loss drops the Elon to 5-3-1 on the season.

Baker pitched a scoreless first inning, Stephanie Jones and Ericka Nesbitt singled to put runners on first and second, when Martinet drove a three run homerun over the right field fence.

Elon scored two runs in the top of the third inning cutting Campbell’s lead 3-2. Campbell then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the frame. The bases were loaded when Brittany Bruce singled to left field, plating two runs to cap off the inning.

Katie Baker pitched a scoreless rest of the game for the Camels, securing the win.

Campbell travels to the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. opening up the tournament, Friday against Toledo at 1:30 p.m.
