NO. 39 / PROSPEX GOLD 01

It was a successful summer for Prospex Gold highlighted with a 17th place finish at PGF Nationals and 9th place at USA Elite Select. Adams called his team a “high total bases team” that relied heavily on the middle of its roster for energy and scoring. Coach Matt Adam is excited about how his team performed and is looking forward to what is on the horizon for his team.

“The summer of 2018 was filled with new challenges for this team and the organization,” said Adams. “Our Prospex Gold 01 team played in two major national championships. We played in the USAES WFC in Kansas City and PGF Premier National Championships in Huntington Beach, California. The team finished in the top 10 in Kansas City and top 20 in California. In Kansas City, we lost in the final four and in California we lost both games by one run and realized after Kansas City and California we were a piece or two away from being the best team in the country.”

“In both events depth was the deciding factor in the games we lost. Throughout the summer our strength was our pitching staff. We had three girls that we could trust in any game and at any time. Olivia Baker (2019 committed to Troy), Emily Butts (2019 committed to University of Mobile), and Alanna Goble (2019 committed to Auburn University of Montgomery) were the rock for this group. This group not only was the strength of this team but got along as a group better than any other pitching staff I have ever coached. They genuinely loved and cared for each other. They were each other’s biggest support all year and that made them the foundation for our team. All the pitchers were different in their own way but that is what made them work so well together.”

“This fall we return everyone but have added the depth needed for us to get where we feel we should have finished, as the top team in the country. We have upgraded the 1B position with the addition of Mackenzie Jackson, University of Mobile commit. Mack has “lightower power” and is a great defensively at 1B. We also have added some depth in the middle infield with the addition of Kalli Cartee (Wallace St) and Blake Gibson (Liberty University). We return a great outfield with Ava Worthy (Chipola), Ellie Largen (Jacksonville St University), and Shelby Newsome (Jacksonville St).”

Key Players:

  • Olivia Baker (2019, P) Troy – Struck out over a hitter an inning and is power pitcher with her velocity reaching as high as 64 mph. She has great late movement and can change eye level extremely well with her drop and rise. She also led the middle of the batting order from the cleanup spot hitting .425 with 15 homers and 39 RBIs.
  • Emily Butts (2019, P) University of Mobile – A down ball pitcher, her velocity is also going to reach over 60 mph with her drop ball and change up creating a tough match-up for hitters. Both pitches look the same out of the hand and both have great late movement down in the zone. She is a low pitch count pitcher who gets weak contact early and gets us back in the dugout quickly as she works in the zone early and often.
  • Alanna Goble (2019, P) Auburn University of Montgomery – An east and west pitcher who relies on late uphill movement on both her screw and curve. She has a very good rise ball to put hitters away and also being around the 60-mph mark allows her to throw her rise past a lot of hitters as it “sneaks” up on you. She is a pitcher that does not look like she would overpower hitters but gets a lot of swings and misses and strikeouts.
  • Shelby Newsome – Jacksonville State – Hit .395 in the “2 hole”.
  • Olivia Barker – Troy – Hit .392 with 11 home runs
  • Alex Howard – Jacksonville St – Hit .366 with 6 homers. Alex and Olivia also provide a very mature mentality for the game with great leadership and a tremendous work ethic that had a positive impact on the team.

“I am really excited about the summer for this group. We have spent the fall playing Junior College teams such as national power Chipola and Wallace St,” said Adams. “As a group the girls realize that the summer was good as far as the finishes in the national events but more than anything this team realizes we fell short of where we should have been. This team is very motivated to prove next summer they are as good or better than anyone in the country … That being said, I love this group of young ladies and they love each other. They have been a joy to coach and watch grow into great players and people. I look forward to one more run.”

NO. 40 / TEXAS BLAZE BONOLA

From another big and powerful program, Bonola’s 16U team competed at a top national level and were very dominate wherever it went. Most notably, Blaze 16U finished 9th at PGF Nationals, an incredible accomplish against the toughest of competition.
