AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball program has named Lindsey Ubrun as its new assistant coach, head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler announced Wednesday. Ubrun joins the Cyclones after spending three years at Chattanooga. She replaces Jamie Pinkerton, who went to become the head coach of the Montana softball program that will begin play in 2015.
“We are excited to have coach Ubrun here,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler said. “She comes from Chattanooga, who has been one of the best offensive teams in the country the past two seasons. She was a phenomenal player at Missouri who helped the Tigers get to the Women’s College World Series. She will be able to provide a clear vision to our players for what it takes to be successful.”
Throughout her three seasons in Chattanooga, where she worked with outfielders and hitters, the Mocs were one of the top hitting teams in the country. In her first two seasons with UT-Chattanooga, when she was a volunteer assistant, the Mocs hit over .340 in both seasons. In 2011, Chattanooga set school records in six offensive categories, including runs scored and total bases. Under the guidance of Ubrun, Tiffany Baker set the school record for home runs in 2011 with 18.
Ubrun played collegiately at Missouri, helping lead the Tigers to the 2009 Women’s College World Series. She was a second-team All-American for Mizzou as a senior, hitting .356 with 16 homers and 56 RBIs. In her junior season, she became the first player in Missouri history to have three home runs in a game.
Prior to playing at Missouri, Ubrun played her first two seasons of softball at Maryland, where she was an All-ACC selection as a freshman.
Ubrun graduated from Missouri in 2010 with a degree in Education.
