RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 18, 2014 — James Madison softball junior pitcher Heather Kiefer (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) and sophomore catcher Erica Field (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) we named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Kiefer and Field helped the Dukes collect a 4-1 record at last weekend’s UCF Holiday Inn Classic. Kiefer went 2-1 with a save and a 1.40 ERA in four appearances for Madison. The right-hander struck out 12 compared to one walk in 15 innings pitched. Opponents scored four runs, three earned, on 14 hits with just three extra-base knocks against the two-time All-CAA performer. This is the fourth time in her career that Kiefer has been named the CAA Pitcher of the Week.

Field hit .438 in five game, going 7-for-16 at the plate. She added a team-best seven RBIs, and collected four extra-base hits, including three doubles and a triple. Field hit safely in four of the five games over the weekend and had two hits in three contests. The 2013 CAA All-Rookie team member scored three runs and walked once while playing error-free defense in the field for Madison. This is the second time in her career that Field has been named the CAA Player of the Week.

UNCW’s Merritt Wilkinson earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Seahawks to a 3-1 record at their own Seahawk Invitational last weekend.

The Dukes return to the field this weekend as they travel to Clearwater, Fla., to play in the NFCA Lead Off Classic. JMU plays five games in the three-day tournament.
