Five Western Michigan Softball Broncos Named NFCA Scholar-Athletes

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Five Broncos were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete Team, including three repeat honorees.

Melissa Palmer paced the quintet of Western Michigan softball student-athletes on the 2013 Division I team, holding a 3.98 GPA in biomedical sciences.

Elisha Handshoe, Jenny Rohn and Megan Stamm are the three Broncos to make a repeat appearance as NFCA Scholar-Athletes. All three are being honored for the second time in their respective careers. Handshoe carried a 3.62 in exercise science, Rohn carries a 3.48 GPA in elementary education and Stamm has a 3.83 in political science.

Also making her first appearance was Colleen Lynch. The departed senior had a 3.05 GPA in health education.

This past season marks the fourth consecutive season that Western Michigan has boasted at least five members on the NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.

The Broncos close out the 2013 fall season with a 10-inning contest against St. Joe College (Ind.) this Friday at 3 p.m. at Fran Ebert Field.
