Four Standouts Earn Final American East Softball Weekly Accolades

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four players from the top three seeds for the 2014 America East Softball Championship have earned the conference’s final weekly awards of the season. Albany’s Maggie Cocks earned Player of the Week recognition while teammate Brittany MacFawn and Stony Brook’s Allison Cukrov shared Pitcher of the Week honors for the second-straight week and Binghamton’s Gabby Bracchi was Rookie of the Week. Player of the Week
Maggie Cocks, So., Shortstop, Albany

  • Hit .692 (9-for-13) to lead her team to four wins in as many games last week.
  • Slugged 1.231, belting four doubles and a homer.
  • Scored three runs and drove in six.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Brittany MacFawn, Sr., Pitcher, Albany

  • Went 2-0 with a save while recorded a 0.55 ERA in 12 2/3 innings. surrendering just one earned run over 18 innings last week.
  • Hurled her second no-hitter in as many weeks against UMBC Saturday.
  • Allowed just five hits, walked two and struck out 17
  • The award is her the third of the season.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Allison Cukrov, Sr., Pitcher, Stony Brook

  • Went 1-0 with a save in 12 1/3 innings against one of the top lineups in America East.
  • Allowed just one run, good for a 0.57 ERA.
  • Gave up just three hits, while striking out 10.
  • The honor is her fourth straight and fifth overall this season.

Rookie of the Week
Gabby Bracchi, Fr., Outfielder, Binghamton

  • Hit .625 (5-for-8) and also walked twice giving her a .727 on-base percentage last week.
  • Ripped a pair of doubles.
  • Drove in five and scored a pair of runs.
  • The award is her first of the season.

Around the League

  • Albany swept its series from UMBC while Stony Brook and UMass Lowell won its season-ending series over the weekend.
  • Stony Brook captured its first America East regular-season title since 2009 and will host this week’s America East Championship. Bracket Release
  • The top-seeded Seawolves will be joined by No. 2 Albany, No. 3 Binghamton and No. 4 UMBC in the tournament field.
  • The tournament takes place May 8-10 at Stony Brook’s University Field.
