Georgia’s Brittany Gray Out For Season

Georgia announced on Monday that senior star pitcher Brittany Gray will miss the remainder of the season with an injury to her right bicep.

It is a huge blow to Georgia’s season as Gray was the front-runner for SEC Pitcher of the Year. Gray held a 16-1 record in the circle and pitched 12 complete games for Georgia. She also had a 0.48 ERA which ranked her 2nd in the country and was also among the nations leaders with shut outs this season. Gray had 134 strikeouts in 148 innings pitched.

“We’ve been so fortunate to have Brittany Gray wear the red and black for almost four years,” said head coach Lu Harris-Champer in the Georgia press release. “She had a tremendous career in the circle, capped by a phenomenal senior year.”

Gray finishes her career at Georgia with 60 wins, which ranks her 5th all-time in Bulldogs softball history. She becomes the sixth pitcher in program history to pitch more than 500 innings.

Georgia, who is ranked in the Top Five in most polls and in the RPI has a 35-5 overall record and is 11-4 in the SEC. The Bulldogs rank at the top of the conference, and will now depend on Kylie Bass. Bass is 12-1 with a 1.65 ERA and is second on the team in starts, wins and innings pitched behind Gray. Mary Wilson Avant, Amanda Ablan, and Lauren Mathis figure to compete to pitch behind Bass for the rest of season.

“The loss of Brittany is certainly a setback to the team, but we have the personnel in place to step up and to help guide this team for the remainder of the season,” said Harris-Champer in press release.

Georgia has the upcoming weekend off from SEC play, as the Bulldogs will host Georgia State on Wednesday and Mercer over the weekend. Georgia returns to SEC play on March 20th in Lexington, KT to take on the Wildcats.
