Haeger Named SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After powering No. 1/2 Florida to a 5-0 record at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, junior Lauren Haeger was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday (Feb. 17) by the conference office. The award marks Haeger’s second consecutive SEC weekly honor to begin the 2014 season, following her Pitcher of the Week selection for Week 1.

The Peoria, Ariz., native batted .533 (8×15) with four home runs, one double, seven runs scored, a stolen base and eight RBI in UF’s wins over Seattle University, Hawaii, Ohio State, Cal State Northridge and Minnesota. Haeger tied her career highs for hits (three) and home runs (two) in Friday’s victory over the Rainbow Wahine. The third-year Gator also contributed in the circle, pitching a complete game in the Orange and Blue’s tournament opener against Seattle.

Haeger and Florida return to the field Wednesday (Feb. 19), when they will host Jacksonville University in UF’s 2014 home opener. First pitch from Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. EST. GatorVision will carry live video, while WGGG (1230-AM) will provide radio coverage. In addition, fans can find live stats through Gametracker on the schedule page on GatorZone.com.
