Hoagland and Luna receive All-America honors from Easton
Taylor Hoagland and Blaire Luna named First Team All-Americans while Texas named one of three Easton Teams of the Year.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas’ Taylor Hoagland and Blaire Luna received two more All-America honors, earning Division I First-Team All-America selections from Easton, the equipment manufacturer released. The dynamic duo helped the Longhorns, for the second time in program history (2006), earn Easton Team of the Year accolades.
For Luna, the individual selection is the third of her career from Easton as she was a first-team honoree in 2011 and second-team pick in 2012. It is the first Easton recognition for Hoagland. This spring, Hoagland and Luna were both National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-Americans. The Longhorns have had eight players receive a total of 10 Easton All-America honors in program history.
On the field in 2013, Hoagland was Texas’ offensive leader in batting average (.424), slugging percentage (.821), on-base percentage (.610), runs scored (67) and walks (73). She ended the campaign with the second-most walks per game among Division I players at 1.2 while her on-base percentage was the highest in program history and ranked third nationally. Her 1.1 runs per game were good for 11th in the country and she stood 16th in slugging percentage and 29th in batting average. The Flower Mound, Texas, native ended her career as a four-time all-league and NFCA All-Region honoree.
Luna capped her time on the Forty Acres with one of the best years of her career. She posted a 32-7 record and 1.28 earned-run average while striking out a personal-best 422 batters. The Austin product topped all Division I players in whiffs and strikeouts per seven innings (11.7) and stood sixth in shutouts with 13. Her 32 wins are tied for the third most in program history behind only Cat Osterman’s 38 in 2006 and 36 in 2002.
The Longhorns made the program’s fifth trip to the Women’s College World Series and first since 2006. UT posted a 51-10 record, good for the fourth-best winning percentage among Division I schools at .836. Texas shattered the program’s stolen bases record with 126, an average of 2.07 per game to rank fifth in the country. The Longhorns also checked in the top 15 nationally in earned-run average (1.65/sixth) and batting average (.322/13th).
