Hofstra Softball

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra Softball Head Coach Larissa Anderson announced the Pride’s 2017 schedule on Tuesday afternoon.

Hofstra went 24-22 last season, including an 8-10 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play and an 8-4 record at Bill Edwards Stadium.

The Pride will play a challenging non-conference schedule that features five teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last season, including two teams that were seeded.

“We have eight first year players, and we need to get them acclimated to playing against some of the best teams in the country and in some of the best college softball venues early on to best prepare us for conference play and potentially the NCAA tournament,” said Anderson. “The CAA currently has the seventh best RPI in the country, and we need to make sure we are preparing our student-athletes to compete at the highest level.”

Hofstra opens the season with a trip to Clearwater, Florida, from Feb. 17-19, where the team will play Oklahoma State, Saint Joseph’s, Binghamton and host South Florida. Oklahoma State and South Florida each earned a spot in Regionals in 2016.

The Pride then travels to East Carolina for games against the host Pirates, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The team opens the month of March in Farmville, Virginia, for three games at Longwood. The Lancers advanced to the NCAA Regional after winning the Big South conference tournament.

A weekend on the west coast at Oregon is up next on March 10-12. The Pride will play the Ducks on Friday and Sunday, and will face off against either Oregon, University of the Pacific or Idaho State on Saturday. The Ducks finished 2016 with a 48-10 record, earning the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and hosting Regionals and Super Regionals.

Hofstra then makes a shorter trek to the St. John’s Invitational on March 17-19 for matchups with local foes Fairleigh Dickinson, St. John’s, Stony Brook and Manhattan.

The Pride then welcomes Fordham, another 2016 NCAA Regional qualifier, for its home opener on March 21, before heading to Binghamton the following day.

Hofstra opens conference play on March 25 and 26, hosting the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Champion and No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, James Madison.

Rutgers makes the trip to Hempstead on March 29 for a non-conference tilt, before the Pride opens the month of April with CAA matchups with Towson on April 1 and 2.

The Pride heads north to play Connecticut on April 5 before returning home to host Delaware on April 8 and 9. Hofstra plays a pair of non-conference games at Seton Hall and home against LIU Brooklyn on April 11 and 12.

The Pride makes the journey to UNCW on April 15 and 16 before a home contest against local rival Stony Brook on April 19. Hofstra then has back-to-back conference weekends, hosting Elon on April 22 and 23 and travelling to College of Charleston on April 29 and 30.

A road game at Lehigh on May 3 is the team’s final non-conference game, while a trip to Drexel on May 5 and 6 rounds out the regular season.

CAA Championships will be held in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on May 10-12.
