Idaho State softball team releases its 2014 schedule

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team released its 2014 schedule and it is highlighted by 12 home games in a span of 21 days.

The 51-game schedule starts February 6 in the St. George, Utah Tournament and is followed by tournaments at Arizona State, New Mexico, UC Riverside and Boise State.

Idaho State plays its home opener on April 8 vs. Utah State.

“I am really excited about this year’s schedule,” Head Coach Julie Wright said. “We will challenge ourselves early with some quality opponents. Our non-conference schedule will get us more than ready to play in a tough Big Sky.”

Idaho State’s home conference opener will be a double header against Sacramento State on April 12. The Bengals and Hornets will play again on the April 13.

The Bengals host Utah Valley University on April 15 and Northern Colorado on April 19-20. The final home conference series is April 26-27 vs. SUU. The home stand concludes April 29 vs. Boise State.

Idaho State opens the season at the St. George Tournament in St. George, Utah from Feb. 6-9 which will include contests against Utah State Texas-Arlington, Utah Valley, Nevada, Grand Canyon and Nebraska-Omaha.

The season continues with five games in Phoenix, Ariz. at Arizona State University’s Diamond Devil Invitational from Feb. 21-23. The schedule and opponents will be announced later.

The Bengals travel to the New Mexico Invitational from Feb. 28 to March 3 for five games.

“We are all excited about the ASU and New Mexico trips,” Wright said. “We don’t play in those tournaments on a regular basis and it will be a great opportunity to face some new, tough competition.”

The following week, ISU plays at the UC Riverside Highlander Classic from March 7 to March 9. The Bengals will compete against San Diego twice, Utah State, UC Riverside.

After four out-of-state tournaments, the Bengals will compete in the Boise State Spring Hill Suites Invitational in Boise. ISU is set to play five games against teams to be announced at a later date.

Big Sky Conference play opens at Portland State with a double-header on March 21 and a single-game on March 22.

The following week the Bengals play four games in the state of Utah against Utah Valley in Orem on March 25, University of Utah in Salt Lake City on the March 26 and three games against BYU in Provo on March 28 and March 29.

Conference play continues with a three-game series at Weber State April 4-5. After 36 straight road games, ISU plays its home opener at Miller Ranch Stadium vs. Utah State on April 8.

Following the Bengals home-stand, ISU concludes Big Sky Conference play at North Dakota May 2-3.

The Big Sky Conference Tournament will be played from May 8 to May 10.
