Indiana State Signs Three Student Athletes To NLI For 2014-15 Season

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Head softball coach Shane Bouman announced today (Thursday, Nov. 14) the signing of three student athletes to join the team during the 2014-15 season. The three signees are: Abby Klopp, Ellen Barrett and Talisa Morton.

Abby Klopp

Abby Klopp will join the Sycamores after a standout career at Baldwin – Woodville High School in Baldwin, Wisconsin. Abby is a two-time Player of the Year and a three-time All –State selection with her senior year still left to play. She received first team all-conference honors in softball, basketball and volleyball and is a Max Preps All-American. As a junior, Abby lead her travel ball team, the Minnesota Sting, to a 3rd place finish at PGF Nationals.

Abby is the daughter of Jason and Lynn, and has two brothers Alex (21), and Andrew (12). Abby plans to major in Elementary Education. Her hobbies include fishing and camping and she is an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Abby on why she chose Indiana State: I chose Indiana State because I really like the softball coaching staff, and the feel the university will be a really good fit for me and my family.

Coach Bouman on Abby: “Abby is a special athlete from a sports family. A natural leader, elite pitcher, or middle infielder — this hitter will impact the lineup next season. Her competitive drive will fit right in with Sycamore Softball.”

Ellen Barrett

Ellen Barrett comes to Indiana State from South Dearborn High School in Aurora, IN. Ellen is an All-Conference, All-County, and All-State selection as well as a two time Conference and County MVP. With her senior season left to play, Ellen currently holds seven career and season school records. She is a two sport athlete in softball and basketball.

Ellen is the daughter of Tim and Gina and has an older sister, Emily who currently attends Indiana State. Ellen plans to major in Psychology. Her hobbies include anything that keeps her active as well as being at the beach. Father Tim played baseball for the Sycamores.

Ellen on why she chose Indiana State: “I chose Indiana State because it feels like a good fit for me. It’s the right size, offers the career path I want, and will allow me the opportunity to play softball in very competitive program. I feel very much at home when I’m there.”

Coach Bouman on Ellen: “The Barrett’s are a Sycamore Family and will be right at home wearing the blue next season. Ellen brings athleticism and toughness and will compete right away at a corner spot on defense. Her ability to drive the ball out of the ballpark will be a welcome addition for Sycamore fans.”

Talisa Morton

Talisa Morton will join the Sycamores from Fenton, MO where she has been a four year starter for Rockwood Summit High School. She is a two-time first team all-conference and all-district nominee as well as a two-time all-region selection. Talisa put together an impressive resume for her senior year as she earned her third defensive player of the year award, fourth Flacon Scholar Athlete Award, as well as MVP and Co-Offensive Player of the Year Awards.

Talisa is the daughter of Jeff and Pam, and she has a younger brother Dilan. Her hobbies include weight lifting and hanging out with family and friends as well as being a member of Crossfit and Captains Council. Talisa plans to major in Math Education.

Talisa on why she chose Indiana State: “I fell in love with the campus, as well as the way they play softball; fast and aggressive. I can’t wait to be a part of something great.”

Coach Bouman on Talisa: “Talisa is a speedy, aggressive go getter who is always moving. Her energy, attitude and work ethic are contagious. She will compete to play right away in a number of positions, while being a tough out at the plate.”
