TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—The Indiana State softball team wrapped up its fall season this weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana to finish 4-0 on the road and a perfect 8-0 on the fall.

“We really try to do things simple,” head coach Shane Bouman said. “We want to catch the ball, throw the ball and we did that really well this fall. We want our pitchers to pitch aggressively, and get ahead in the count and to kind of have a presence on the mound. All three of our pitchers were able to do that.”

The team started off the fall with a doubleheader sweep of Heartland at Price field. The Sycamores won the first game 8-7 before winning 9-1 in game two.

The Sycamores then improved to 4-0 when they hosted Lakeland in a doubleheader at Price Field. Indiana State defeated Lakeland 12-0 and 7-2 in the twinbill to wrap up the home portion of the fall schedule.

The team then hit the road and traveled to Chicago, Ill. For a pair of games against Kirkwood and Illinois Chicago. The Sycamores defeated Kirkwood 11-3 before rallying in the bottom of the 7th inning to defeat the defending Horizon League champions, the University of Illinois Chicago, by a score of 4-3.

In their final games of the fall, the Sycamores traveled to Bloomington, Ind. For a pair of games against the Hoosiers of Indiana. Indiana State got ahead early before winning game one, 6-1. In the second game, the Sycamores scored two runs in the first and five in the third to go on to win 7-1 and finish the fall season 8-0.

On the fall season, Indiana State had 10 different players with a batting average over .300 and nine players with an on base percentage over .400. The team also stole 27 bases and had an ERA of 2.16 over 55 innings.

The Sycamores will now return to individual workouts for the rest of the semester before opening their 2014 season on Feb. 7 at the Cyclone Invitational hosted by Iowa State University.
