Kristie Fox Is Named New Head Coach At UNLV

Former Arizona All-American player Kristie Fox was named the new Head Coach at UNLV on Thursday following 5 seasons as Head Coach at UT-Arlington. Fox replaces Lisa Dodd who resigned in June after five seasons.

Fox led the Mavericks to 134 wins in the 5 seasons including 32  wins this past season which was the program’s most wins in a season since 2011. Fox led UT-Arlington to its first postseason appearance since 2003, competing in the National Invitational Softball Championship.  Fox takes over a UNLV program that has not had a winning season since 2011 or won 30 games in a season since 2010. The Rebels have not reached postseason play since 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Fox was a two-time All-American during her career at Arizona. Fox led the Wildcats to back-to-back NCAA Championships during her junior and senior years (2006 and 2007) playing with players like Taryne Mowatt who currently pitching at Ole Miss. As a senior, Fox set a Women’s College World Series record with 11 hits, helping the school to its eighth national crown in softball by defeating Tennessee in the Championship Series.

Fox began her coaching career at Arizona, serving as the undergraduate assistant for the Wildcats in 2008. Fox spent a year as assistant coach at Murray State in 2009 before moving on to Texas Tech where she helps the Red Raiders in her three seasons get into NCAA Tournament 3 straight years.

Fox has been part of the coaching staff the last three years for the USA Junior Women’s National Team and is currently with the team as they are getting ready to compete at the WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship in Clearwater, Florida, July 24-30.
