TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State junior pitcher Lacey Waldrop was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday. This is Waldrop’s third conference honor of the season.

Lacey Waldrop aided Florida State to two road wins over ranked teams this past week. The Seminoles traveled to No. 25 Auburn on February 26 and defeated the Tigers, 5-4, behind a complete game from Waldrop where she allowed six hits, four walks and only one earned run to go along with eight strikeouts.

FSU continued to the Easton Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Waldrop faced Houston once and No. 11 Alabama twice. Waldrop was dominant in her game against Houston on Feb. 28, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing only one unearned run, zero walks and posting 10 strikeouts. It marked the third time this season that she has recorded zero walks and at least 10 strikeouts in a game.

In two games against No. 11 Alabama, Waldrop pitched 10.0 innings, surrendering only seven total hits, one run, two walks and striking out 11. The `Noles narrowly lost the first game on March 1, 1-0, but came back to handily defeat the Crimson Tide on March 2 by a score of 5-1.

“I’m really excited for Lacey,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “She has worked really hard for this opportunity to be the leader in the circle for this team. And our success is a total team effort. We play some great defense and giving her the run support is huge. The hitters have worked really hard in the cage. This past week was a great challenge for our program and we are proud of our journey so far and look forward to the weekends ahead.”

The No. 9 Seminoles (18-2, 0-0 ACC) are on the road again this weekend as they open ACC play against Virginia (2-14, 0-3 ACC). Florida State will play a double header against the Cavaliers on Sat., March 8 starting at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on March 9 at 11:00 a.m. All three games will be played in Charlottesville, Va.
