Player of the Week
Allison Hand – Iona
Jr., OF, 5-3, Orange, CA/Orange Lutheran
The MAAC Softball Player of the Week is Allison Hand of Iona. The junior outfielder batted .800 in three games for the Gaels, collecting eight hits in 10 at bats. Hand belted two home runs and added a double over the three games. She also scored six runs and collected five RBI, with an on-base percentage of .818 and a slugging percentage of 1.500 to help the Gaels go 2-1. Against Stony Brook, Hand went 2-for-3 with one run scored in an 8-0 Iona win. Against St. John’s, Hand went 2-for-3, with a home run and a double, scoring three runs and driving in two more. In the Gaels’ MAAC opener against Saint Peter’s, Hand went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Hand helped the Gaels to an 8-0 win over the Peacocks, with a two-run homer in the fifth, and added an RBI single.
Pitcher of the Week
Jessika-Jo Sandrini – Siena
Sr., P/UTL, 5-6, Adna, Wash. /Adna
The MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week is Jessika-Jo Sandrini of Siena. The senior righty tossed a complete game shutout against Hartford for the Saints. Sandrini scattered three hits and struck out a season high 10 batters, keeping the Hawks off-balance throughout the game. She yielded just two walks and didn’t allow an extra base hit while collecting her eighth complete game, and second complete game shutout, of the year. It is the second time this season that Sandrini has been named MAAC Pitcher of the Week.
Rookie of the Week
Kristen Turner – Iona
Fr., IF, 5-7, Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township
The MAAC Softball Rookie of the Week is Kristen Turner. The freshman infielder hit .600 (6-for-10) in three games, with three extra base hits, six RBI and four runs scored. Turner had a slugging percentage of 1.100 over the three games and recorded an on base percentage of .636. Against Stony Brook, Turner went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, drove in four runs and scored twice. The following day against St. John’s, Turner went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Against Saint Peter’s, Turner scored a run, and drove in the game ending run with a walk off double in the fifth, as Iona defeated the Peacocks 8-0 in five innings.
