Megan Stone & Brooke Riemenschneider Earn MVC Athlete Of The Week Honors

ST. Louis, Mo.—Junior Megan Stone and freshman Brooke Riemenschneider each earned Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors the leauge office announced Monday.

Stone was named the MVC player of the week while Riemenschneider was named MVC newcomer of the week. This marks the first time in school history that two players have earned an honor in the same week. It is also the first time in ISU history that the team has earned more than two honors in a season as sophomore pitcher Taylor Lockwood has been named MVC Pitcher of the Week on two occasions this season.

For Stone, it marks the second time she has earned the honor and first since March 25, 2013. Stone led the Sycamores over the weekend as she went 8-12 for a .667 batting average with three doubles and a home run for a team leading seven RBI’s and 14 total bases. Stone also added three runs scored and a .692 on base percentage with a whopping 1.167 slugging percentage. Now on the season, Stone is hitting .300 with four home runs and 21 runs batted in to lead the Sycamores.

Riemenschneider had a breakout weekend at the plate for Indiana State. In the first game of the series against Illinois State, Riemenschneider went 3-3 with two home runs, two walks and five runs scored. The freshman finished the week going 5-11 for a .455 average with a double, two home runs, four RBI’s, five runs scored and 12 total bases. Riemenschneider also held a .538 on base percentage and 1.091 slugging percentage.

The Sycamores return to action Tuesday when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to play a single game against the Hoosiers of Indiana beginning at 5 p.m.
