Earleywine announces graduate assistant Simmons to take on director of operations duties

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball graduate assistant Lisa Simmons will assume the role of director of operations, head coach Ehren Earleywine announced Tuesday. An assistant coach at Evansville in 2012, Simmons returned to her alma mater (2008-11) for the 2013 season as a graduate assistant.

“Lisa was the right fit for our operations position,” Earleywine said. “She’s a high energy person and pays attention to detail. As a former player here, she knows our program as well as anyone.”

Simmons played a large role in Mizzou’s three consecutive trips to the Women’s College World Series from 2009-11. She helped Mizzou claim a Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship in 2009, as well as a regular season Big 12 Championship in 2011. Simmons finished her Mizzou career as one of the program’s most trustworthy fielders, compiling a career .990 fielding percentage that ranks tied for seventh in the Tigers’ record book.

In her final two seasons in the Black & Gold in 2011 and 2012, Simmons smacked five home runs and made 53 starts across multiple positions. She proved to be versatile as a Tiger, seeing action in left field, right field and at pitcher and catcher.

Simmons graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in psychology and education in 2011. She is currently pursuing post-graduate studies, working towards a master’s degree in counseling psychology, with an emphasis in sports psychology.
