Molly Fichtner Named New Head Coach at Louisiana-Monroe
Molly Fichtner was named the new head coach at Louisiana-Monroe late last week. Fichter is best known for her two years playing at Alabama (2013-2014) where Fichter was an All-SEC performer.
Fichtner served as an assistant coach at East Carolina during the 2018 season, helping the Pirates to 23 wins in her one season in Greenville.
She takes over a Louisiana-Monroe program that finished the 2018 season with a 24-29 overall record, including a 10-17 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Fichter takes over for Corey Lyon who left to join Megan Smith’s staff at Marshall as an assistant coach.
Before her tenure at East Carolina, Fichtner spent two years as an assistant coach at Dartmouth and had a single-season stint as a volunteer assistant at Alabama, her alma mater, following her playing career with the Crimson Tide.
During her collegiate playing career, Fichtner began her career at UT-San Antonio and twice earned all-Southland Conference honors during her time with the Roadrunners. She was the 2011 Southland Freshman of the Year. After transferring to Alabama before her junior campaign, Fichtner earned second-team all-SEC honors as a senior in 2014.
