TAMPA, FEB. 24, 2014 – USF senior ace Sara Nevins has quickly made fans forget about her 0-2 start during opening week and has returned to her dominant form, being named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive time.
The two-time NFCA All-American has posted a 5-0 record and a save in her last seven appearances, including a 2-0 record at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in Clearwater, Fla., this past weekend.
The Pinellas Park, Fla., native was named to the all-tournament team after allowing only two runs in 16 innings while posting 15 strikeouts in a 4-1 weekend for the Bulls.
Nevins also recorded her first save of the year against Illinois State, combining with starting pitcher Erica Nunn to throw a no-hitter in a game that was split into two days after weather caused the tournament schedule to be revised.
After this weekend, she now leads the team with a 1.59 earned run average, five wins and 54 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched.
