Megan Geer’s solo blast and RBIs from Aldrete and Tarango gave No. 2/3 Tennessee the edge over #13/11 Stanford on Sunday night in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Tennessee (12-0) scored one run in the first and added two more in the fifth. Stanford (14-3) tied the game 1-1 in the fifth on an RBI single from Tylyn Wells.

Geer recorded her first home run of her career and went 1-for-4 at the plate. Melissa Davin and Rainey Gaffin both hit 1-for-2 and scored one run apiece. Annie Aldrete recorded an RBI, also finishing the day 1-for-2.

Ellen Renfroe (6-0) was exceptional in the circle, allowing three hits, one run and striking out seven Stanford batters.

Madi Schreyer (11-2) took the loss for Stanford, giving up three runs on five hits and a home run.

Megan Geer put the Lady Vols on the board 1-0 in the third after launching a monster leadoff solo home run to right field.

With Stanford looking to answer in the top of the fourth and one runner on, Rainey Gaffin made a great running catch in center field to rob Sorenson of a hit and keep the score at 1-0.

In the top of fifth, Stanford notched a run to pull even with UT 1-1 on an RBI from Tylyn Wells. Roulund singled up the middle first and Jessica Plaza reached on an error by Geer to put runners on first and second. One batter later, Wells knocked in Roulund on a single up the middle.

Tennessee responded in the bottom of the inning, tacking on two runs to break the tie. Gaffin got on base with a leadoff single. Two batters later, Davin added a single down the right side to advance Gaffin to second. Aldrete singled up the middle on the next at-bat, scoring Gaffin. Overstreet then walked to load the bases. The next batter, Tarango, also walked scoring Davin and giving Tennessee a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Vols will face Fresno State later tonight in the final game of the Mary Nutter Classic.
