San Bruno, Calif. – Senior outfielder Taylor Petty was named the West Coast Conference softball player of the week for February 24, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Petty continued her hot hitting in the season’s second week after getting out to a strong start for the Tigers as the Porter, Texas native kept up the pace through the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, compiling six hits and five RBI in the five games of tournament play over the weekend in Cathedral City.

In addition, she roped a pair of doubles and drew seven walks, including a walk-off RBI base on balls to beat Oklahoma State on Friday night.

Petty leads the WCC in batting average (.567), on-base percentage (.683), slugging percentage (.633) and walks (11). She is tied for the conference lead in hits (17), despite playing two fewer games than her competition. On defense, Petty has started all 11 games for Pacific, playing error free in the outfield.

Pacific (3-8), competing in the WCC’s inaugral season of softball, will look for Petty to continue her impressive start to the season against California (7-6) on Wednesday at Bill Simoni Field. The 4:00pm contest will be the first for the Orange and Black at home after early-season rainouts postponed the scheduled opening-doubleheader against Sacramento State to April 8.
