BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second consecutive week, Eastern Kentucky University junior Leanna Pittsenbarger was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week the league announced today.
Pittsenbarger recorded back-to-back complete game shutout wins over Louisville and Central Michigan at the Cardinal Classic this past weekend. The righty from Urbana, Ohio allowed just one hit in each game. Pittsenbarger hasn’t given up a run in her last 23 innings of work dating back to Feb. 14 against Evansville. In that span, the opposition has a total of three hits.
For the season, Pittsenbarger is 5-2 with a 1.58 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting just .129 against Pittsenbarger. The program single season record for lowest opponent batting average is .166, which was set by EKU Athletics Hall of Famer Jonelle Csora in 2001.
Meanwhile, Jacksonville State first baseman Amanda Maldonado was named OVC Softball Player of the Week.
Eastern Kentucky returns to action this coming weekend at the UK Tournament hosted by the University of Kentucky.
