LOS ANGELES – A fifth-inning RBI single by senior Ashley Burkhardt was enough to lift the Boilermakers past No. 24 Texas A&M on Sunday as junior pitcher Lilly Fecho struck out seven and allowed just one hit in the 1-0 win.

The Boilermakers scored one run on four hits, while allowing the Aggies just one hit and three base runners in the game. Burkhardt and senior Alyssa Koorsen, junior CJ Parsons and sophomore Kristen Hoppman accounted for the hits.

Fecho sat down 14 Aggies in a row, until allowing the first hit in the fifth. A walk and a sacrifice in the sixth gave Texas A&M its lone runner in scoring position.

Junior Mary Gooding was the first base runner of the game after drawing a one-out walk in the opening stanza.

The Boilers put two aboard in the second on a two-out single by Koorsen and an errant fielder’s choice that put senior Alex Whittemore on base. A fly ball kept Purdue from converting on the RBI chance.

Gooding picked up another one out walk in the third, but was left stranded at second base.

Purdue threatened in the fourth as Hoppman doubled up the left field line and went to third on a grounder, but a fielder’s choice play kept the Boilers off the scoreboard.

The Boilermakers scored first combining a leadoff double by Parsons and a single up the middle by senior Ashley Burkhardt. Burkhardt stole second and went to third on a two-out wild pitch. Freshman Kaylah Hampton battled through a 15-pitch at-bat for a walk to put runners at the corners, but Texas A&M reeled in a fly ball at the warning track to keep the Boilers just the one run.

After sitting down 14 batters in a row, Fecho allowed a two-out single up the middle in the fifth, but bounced back with a strikeout to escape the inning unscathed.

Junior Paris Andrew drew a walk to start the sixth. A fielder’s choice put Koorsen on and she swiped second, before a fly ball to the warning track and a ground out erased the threat.

Texas A&M put their first runner in scoring position with a walk and a sacrifice in the bottom of the inning, but Fecho forced a grounder to first base to end the stanza.

Two fly balls and a strikeout accounted for the final three outs to seal the win.

The Boilermakers (1-4) return to action on Friday at the Florida International Tournament in Miami, Fla.
